DANA, a smart and beautiful woman has turned to prostitution. She delivers most of her income to a mafia boss. She's good at what she does, and if she behaves well enough, she might obtain her freedom. But her addiction to a prescription drug and her daughter's illness will prevent her from reaching her goals. Until an unexpected incident will give her the chance to break free from her captor and take justice into her own hands.

DANA, una mujer inteligente y hermosa ha recurrido a prostitución. Entrega la mayor parte de sus ingresos a un jefe de la mafia. Es buena en lo que hace, y tal vez, si se comporta, podría obtener su libertad. Pero su adicción a una droga farmacéutica y la enfermedad de su hija le impedirán alcanzar sus metas. Hasta que un incidente inesperado le da la oportunidad de liberarse de su captor y buscar justicia por mano propia.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: Gabriela Calvache
Born in 1977 in Ambato, Ecuador; her short film “On Hold” (En espera) premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR, 2011) and received awards at festivals in Japan, France, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, and Brazil. It was also selected by the Berlin International Film Festival (Native Section 2015), International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (2011), among others. Her short film “Things you never say”' (Hay cosas que no se dicen) was selected by numerous festivals, including Mar del Plata (Argentina), Guadalajara (Mexico), Cinema Jove (Spain), and São Paulo (Brazil), among others; it was also shown at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington DC, USA (2007). “The Longest Night” is her first feature film and it has been selected by the Europe - Latin America Coproduction Forum, San Sebastian Film Festival, among others.

"All of the characters in LA MALA NOCHE are inspired by real people, and their memories. My friendship with two women allowed me to give life to DANA, a prostitute over the age of forty who lives in slavery, even if she is not physically imprisoned. My greatest challenge as an artist was to enter into DANA’s intimacy: How does a prostitute bear her situation? How does she perceive herself? What does she do to relieve her pain? What are her dreams?”

My amistad con dos mujeres me permitió darle vida a DANA, una prostituta de más de 40 años de edad que vive en condición de esclavitud, aún no siendo físicamente prisionera. My mayor reto, como artista, fue entrar en la intimidad de DANA: ¿Cómo una prostituta conlleva su situación? ¿Cómo se ve a sí misma? ¿Qué hace para aliviar el dolor? ¿Cuáles son sus sueños?"
